How does plasterboard recycling work?
EcoGypsum collects plasterboard from sites like yours. We carefully strip the paper from it to be used in animal beds. Next, we process the boards to extract and refine the gypsum into a fine powder, which is then used as an agricultural soil conditioner. We’re confident that our end product is the best agricultural gypsum in Victoria.
Can all types of plasterboard be recycled?
Yes, most plasterboard can be recycled, including standard, fire, and moisture-resistant types. However, we generally do not accept plasterboard that contains asbestos, lead paint, harmful chemicals, or other nonrecyclable materials.
How much does recycling plasterboard cost with EcoGypsum?
Our Melbourne plasterboard recycling service fee is roughly a quarter of the price of standard tipping costs. The exact cost will vary based on how much plasterboard you’re recycling and whether you require a collection or drop-off service. Get in touch, and we’ll provide a tailored quote.
How does recycling plasterboard reduce environmental harm?
Every year, Australia produces over one million tonnes of plasterboard, most of which ends up in landfills. Recycling plasterboard reduces waste sent to landfills, conserves valuable resources, and minimises environmental degradation from new gypsum production. The end product, gypsum, then goes into rehabilitating and enriching land for agriculture.
What are the other benefits of recycling plasterboard?
Recycling your plasterboard isn’t just good for the environment, it makes good economic sense too. It costs just 25% of sending your plasterboard to landfill and it can be a great way to increase your project’s appeal by helping you achieve GBCA six stars.
Can you collect my plasterboard?
Yes we offer both bins, bags and a manual collection service for projects of any size. You can either fill your bags and bins up and call us to collect when it’s convenient for you – or we can handload your plasterboard ourselves.
Can you collect from homeowners?
Yes we provide bins, bags and manual pick ups to suit projects of any size, including homeowners. Call us to book a collection service that suits your needs.
Do I need to separate my plasterboard from other construction waste?
Yes. To ensure we can recycle your plasterboard effectively and avoid contamination, it must be separated from all other construction waste. Mixing plasterboard with other materials can reduce the value of the final product for use in agriculture.
How do I know if my plasterboard is recyclable?
Most plasterboard is recyclable as long as it’s clean and uncontaminated. If you’re not sure, feel free to get in touch, and we can visit your site to inspect your plasterboard.
